WORLD MINING CONGRESS AT NEW DELHI
IN NOVEMBER
The 19th
World Mining Congress and Expo-2003 will be held here from November
1-5, 2003. This is the second time that the India has been given
the honour to organise the 5-day congress, which will be a mega
event for mining industry in the new millennium. The earlier one
was held during 1984. With the rich technical content, the congress
will offer engineers, technicians and experts from all over the
world a communication platform to deliberate on major problems
that confronts the Mining Industry worldwide.
More than 60
countries including Australia, Canada, China, Finland, Germany,
Ghana, Iran, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Africa, U.K,
USA will participate in the event. Group participation from mineral
rich states like Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh has
been finalised. Participation is also expected from Andhra Pradesh,
Goa, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The event is supported by Ministries of Coal, Mines, Petroleum
and Natural Gas, Steel, Power, Environment & Forest, Commerce
& Industry, Science and Technology and Small Scale Industries.
On the threshold
of the 21st century, the minerals sector in the world
faces myriad of challenges. Meeting the burgeoning material needs
of the world's teeming millions is the primary responsibility
of the minerals sector and this challenge has to be met in the
face of mounting environment, social, ethnic and safety issues.
Minerals have been the keystones of the destiny of nations and
the industry has to gear up for new technological initiatives
to assure sustainable development. The 19th World Mining
Congress is being organised to deliberate and exchange views on
the key issues of the mineral sector.
