RAILWAY MINISTER'S WELFARE AND RELIEF FUND


The Railway Minister’s Welfare and Relief Fund, in operation since May, 1996, provides Rs. 25000 to the next of kin of pre-maturely deceased railwaymen, Rs. 50,000 for railwaymen murdered or killed on duty or in an accident, Rs. 20,000 for self-sickness of railwaymen or their dependents including treatment for cancer, open heart surgery and other such major ailments, Rs. 15000 for handicapped railwaymen for purchase of motorized equipment for their mobility and rupees three lakh for employees affected by natural calamities.

In cases, where financial assistance beyond the prescribed monetary ceiling limits is justified such matters are decided by the Minister of Railways on the recommendations of the Committee, which administers the Fund.

The Fund has been created as a welfare measure for railway employees to sustain their morale and productivity.
