TRANSMISSION LINE FROM BHUTAN TO
EASTERN REGION

The Transmission
Line from Tala HEP to Indo-Bhutan border is being implemented
by Tala HEP Authority and the transmission line from Indo-Bhutan
border to Siliguri is being executed by Powergrid. Powergrid and
Tata Power Company Limited have decided to jointly execute certain
power transmission lines for transfer of Tala HEP power from Siliguri
to various constituent States in Eastern Region and also for transfer
of surplus power in Eastern Region to various constituent States
in Northern Region by formation of a Joint Venture Company, namely,
Tala-Delhi Transmission Limited.
Powergrid has signed
three agreements, viz., Shareholders' Agreement (SHA), Implementation
Agreement (IA) and Transmission Service Agreement (TSA) on July
4, 2003 for execution of the above mentioned transmission lines.
These agreements specify the rights and responsibilities of the
concerned parties and the terms and conditions for construction
(including the construction period) and operation and maintenance
of the project (including payment of transmission tariff to the
JVC).
The estimated cost
of the transmission lines to be implemented by the JVC (Tala-Delhi
Transmission Limited) is Rs.1099.64 crore (2nd quarter
2002 price level). These lines are scheduled to be completed by
July, 2006.
The States of Bihar,
Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim in Eastern Region and Rajasthan,
Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana
in Northern Region will be benefited from this project.
