ESTABLISHMENT OF SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONES

had given its approval for setting up of a port-based Special
Economic Zone at Vallarpadam and Puthuvypeen area of Cochin Port
Trust. No major port has set up Special Economic Zone. This was
stated by Shri Dilipkumar Mansukhlal Gandhi, Minister of State
in the Ministry of Shipping in a written reply to Mr.A Narendra
in Lok Sabha today. In reply to another question the Minister
said that the Shipping Ministry had conveyed in principle approval
for setting up of Special Economic Zone at Tuticorin Port and
presently no proposal was under consideration of the Shipping
Ministry in respect of other major ports.
