FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY JAPAN TO TRIPURA POWER PROJECT

RAJAY SABHA

The Tripura Gas Based Combined Power Project of NEEPCO at the total project cost of Rs.1725.68 crore has been posed to Government of Japan for JBIC loan assistance under FY 2003 JBIC loan package. Government of Japan is yet to take a decision on selection of the project.

The proposed installed capacity of Tripura Gas Based Power Project was initially framed at 500 MW. Due to reduced availability of gas from ONGC from 2.0 MMSCUMD to 1.0 MMSCUMD, the revised capacity of Tripura Gas Based Power Project is now 280 MW only. This project would be the second biggest gas based thermal power plant in the North East. The power from this project will basically meet the requirement of N.E.Region beneficiaries, the surplus power, is envisaged for evacuation outside the N.E.Region.

This information was given by Smt. Jayawanti Mehta, Minister of State for Power in a written reply to a question by Miss Mabel Rebello in Rajya Sabha today.
