GOVERNMENT PROPOSES TO SET UP A
COMMISSION FOR RESERVATION FOR ECONOMICALLY BACKWRD CLASSES
The Government has
finalized a proposal to set up a Commission to study and recommend
reservation for economically backward classes that are not covered
by the present policy. This was disclosed by the Minister of State
for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Nagmani in a written reply
in the Rajya Sabha today. He said that demands have been raised
for setting up separate commissions for the economically backward
classes and for persons with disabilities. Shri Nagmani said that
the government is of the view that there is no need for a Commission
for the persons with disabilities as several legislative measure
are already in place to take care of their interests. Shri Nagmani
also informed the House that no formal demand has been received
by his Ministry for setting up a separate Commission for the nomadic
tribes.
