GOVERNMENT PROPOSES TO SET UP A COMMISSION FOR RESERVATION FOR ECONOMICALLY BACKWRD CLASSES

The Government has finalized a proposal to set up a Commission to study and recommend reservation for economically backward classes that are not covered by the present policy. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Nagmani in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. He said that demands have been raised for setting up separate commissions for the economically backward classes and for persons with disabilities. Shri Nagmani said that the government is of the view that there is no need for a Commission for the persons with disabilities as several legislative measure are already in place to take care of their interests. Shri Nagmani also informed the House that no formal demand has been received by his Ministry for setting up a separate Commission for the nomadic tribes.
