INCLUSION OF MORE CASTES IN STs
LIST
Union Minister of
Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram in a written reply to a question
from Shri Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma and Shri Drupad Borgohain informed
the Rajya Sabha today that for deciding claims for inclusion,
exclusion and other modifications in the list of Scheduled Castes
and Scheduled Tribes, the Koch Rajbongshi community of Assam has
not yet become eligible for inclusion in the list of STs as per
procedure approved.
Suggestions of the
Joint Parliamentary Committee regarding the inclusion of Tal Ahom,
Moran, Mattak, Chutia and Tea Garden population in ST list of
Assam has been processed as per approved modalities. None of the
above mentioned communities has become eligible for inclusion
in the list of STs.
The Minister further
informed the House that following communities have fulfilled all
the criteria for being enlisted as STs in Assam State, and are
included in SCs and STs Order (Amendment) Act, 2002, namely, Karbi,
Lalung, Dimasa, Hajong, Singhpho, Khampti and Garo.
