SLUM POPULATION IN NCR

RAJYA SABHA

The approximate number of slum dwellers in the National Capital Region (NCR), excluding National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, is around 23 lakhs. As regards NCT, Delhi the estimated number of families of slum dwellers is around 6 lakhs.

The State Governments of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have reported that proposals for construction of Dwelling units under Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana in some NCR towns of their States are in various stages of progress. In the case of NCT of Delhi both Slum and JJ Departments of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) have reported that they do not have any proposal to allot flats to slum dwellers in Delhi. However, the DDA, as a pilot project, has shifted the slums of Motia Khan by providing flats at Rohini.

This information was given by Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan, Minister of State for Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation in a written reply to the question of Shri Surendra Lath in Rajya Sabha today.
