WIND POWER POTENTIAL


LOK SABHA

The gross wind power potential in the country has been estimated at about 45,000 MW. The technical potential, which can be tapped at present is, however, about 13,000 MW.

A total wind power capacity of 1870 MW has so far been installed in the country which is 14.4 per cent of the present exploitable potential.

A wind power capacity addition of 1500 MW is envisaged during the Tenth Plan period.

The exploitable wind power potential in Tamil Nadu is about 1900 MW. A wind power capacity of 990 MW has been installed in the State so far.

This information was given by Shri M. Kannappan, Minister of State for Non-conventional Energy Sources, in a written reply to a question by Shri P. Kumarasamy in Lok Sabha today.
