DISTRIBUTION OF ELECTRICITY BY
NTPC
National Thermal
Power Corporation Ltd. has recently formed a company for retail
distribution of electricity. In order to facilitate NTPC entering
into power distribution, a wholly owned subsidiary company called,
NTPC Electric Supply Company Ltd. (NESCL) has been incorporated
in August, 2002 to take up power distribution activities.
In the first instance,
NESCL is in discussions with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd.
and Government of Uttar Pradesh regarding the feasibility of taking
over/acquiring majority stake in Kanpur Electricity Supply Company
Ltd.
This information
was given by Smt. Jayawanti Mehta, Minister of State for Power
in a written reply to a question by Dr. N. Venkataswamy in Lok
Sabha today.
