PRODUCTION OF VERMICOMPOST
The centre is promoting
use of various sources of organic manure including vermicompost
to provide supplementary nutrients to crops. The production of
vermicompost is one of the activities under the centrally sponsored
Technology Mission on Integrated Development of Horticulture in
the North-Eastern States. The
State Governments are also promoting the production of vermicompost
under the Macro Management Scheme. In order to ensure adequate
availability of effective strains of earthworms for large scale
production of vermicomposting on farmers’ fields, vermiculture
hatcheries are proposed to be set up with the centre’s support
under the National Project on Organic Farming.
This information

Narayan Yadav in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha
