FOODGRAINS PRODUCTION DURING 2002-03 ESTIMATED AT 182.57 MILLION TONNES

The foodgrains production in the country during 2002-03 has been estimated at 182.57 million tonnes. This has come out in the Agriculture Ministry’s fourth advance estimates of production of foodgrains and principal commercial crops for 2002-03. The estimates are subject to revision on account of more precise information flowing over time. Foodgrains production during 2001-02 was 212.02 million tonnes. According to the fourth advance estimates, the production of pulses during 2002-03 was 11.31 million tonnes as against 13.19 million tonnes in 2001-02. The production of oil seeds was 157.5 lakh tonnes as against 208 lakh tonnes during 2001-02. Comparative figures of various crops for the years 1990-91 to 2002-03 are given in the following tables.
