INDIA’S EXPORTS ON DOUBLE DIGIT
GROWTH PATH AGAIN
INDIA’S
FOREIGN TRADE: APRIL-MAY, 2003-2004
India’s exports
during April-May, 2003-2004 are valued at US $ 8863.59 million
(i.e. US $ 8.8 billion) which is 11.12% higher than the level
of US $ 7976.88 million (i.e. US $ 7.9 billion) during April-May,
2002-2003. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs. 41858.94 crore,
during April-May, 2003-2004 which is 7.19% higher than the value
of exports during April-May, 2002-2003.
Exports during
May, 2003 are valued at US $ 4520.93 million which is 13.53% higher
than the level of US $ 3982.21 million during May, 2002. In rupee
terms, the exports were Rs. 21285.28 crore, which is 9.09% higher
than the value of exports during May, 2002.
India’s imports during
April-May, 2003-2004 are valued at US $ 11223.48 million representing
an increase of 19.55% over the level of imports valued at US $
9388.20 million in April-May, 2002-2003.
Oil imports during
April-May, 2003-2004 are valued at US $ 2917.75 million which
is 4.48% higher than oil imports valued at US $ 2792.58 million
in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during
April-May, 2003-2004 are estimated at US $ 8305.73 million which
is 25.93% higher than the level of such imports valued at US $
6595.62 million in April-May, 2002-2003.
Imports during May,
2003 are valued at US $ 5625.23 million representing an increase
of 8.57% over the level of imports valued at US $ 5180.98 million
in May, 2002. In Rupee terms the imports increased by 4.33% during
April-May, 2003-2004.
The
trade deficit for April-May, 2003-2004 is estimated at US $ 2359.89
million which is higher than the deficit at US $ 1411.32 million
during April-May, 2002-2003.

provisional estimates of Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence
& Statistics (DGCI&S), are attached.
