OVER ONE LAKH COMMERCIAL VEHICLES PRODUCED IN THE FIRST SEVEN MONTHS THIS YEAR

One lakh seven thousand and nine Commercial Vehicles have been produced during the first seven months of the current financial year. This is 28.74 per cent higher than the production of 83,118 last year. The total turnover of Commercial Vehicles during the financial year 2001-2002 was Rs.18,525.80 crore. The total value of export of Commercial Vehicles during 2001-2002 is Rs.240.80 crore. In the Light Commercial Vehicles category 12,045 Passenger Carriers were produced. Production during the same period last year was 8057. Similarly, 33,794 Goods Carriers were manufactured against a figure of 26,769 during the corresponding period the previous year.

61,170 Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles were manufactured during the first seven months of the current financial year as against 48,292 during the corresponding period of the previous year. This is an increase of 26.66 per cent.
