Shri Sharad Yadav,
Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has
called upon the non-governmental organisations working in the
field of consumer protection to spread awareness about products
and services among the rural people. Releasing the annual issue
of the Consumer Magazine "VOICE" here today the minister
said that more and more people should come forward in spreading
awareness among the people about consumer rights and their responsibilities.
Shri Yadav expressed
concern over misleading advertisements appearing on health products
and food items and said that he had written to the ministry of
Health to bring them under definite categories so that action
could be initiated against them in the interest of consumers.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs would provide all necessary infrastructure
for making the consumer aware of products and services available
to them; he said. Consumer awareness has assumed added importance
in the wake of globalisation as well as technical and industrial
advancement as development in any field was closely linked to
consumer welfare, the Minister pointed out.
