The mineral production
from mining and quarrying sector in November, 02 remained at the
same level of previous month and showed 3% increase as compared
to that of the corresponding month of previous year.
The total value of
mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in
the country during November 2002 was Rs.4753 crore as compared
to Rs.4711 crore in October 2002. The contribution of coal was
the highest at Rs.1878 crore(40%). Next in the order of importance
were: petroleum (crude) Rs.1527 crore, natural gas (utilized)
Rs.726 crore, iron ore Rs.186 crore, limestone Rs.109 crore and
lignite Rs.106 crore. These six minerals together contributed
95% of the total value of mineral production in November 2002.
Production level
of important minerals in November 2002 were: coal 291 lakh tonnes,
lignite 18 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 2500 million cu.m.,
petroleum (crude) 27 lakh tonnes, bauxite 718 thousand tonnes,
chromite 284 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 12 thousand tonnes,
gold 255 kg., iron ore 74 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 5 thousand tonnes,
manganese ore 131 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 34 thousand tonnes,
apatite & phosphorite 82 thousand tonnes, dolomite 256 thousand
tonnes, limestone 105 lakh tonnes and magnesite 21 thousand tonnes.
During November,
2002 the output of lignite increased by 11%, chromite 7%, coal
4%, bauxite 2% as compared to the preceding month. However, the
output of zinc conc decreased by 17%, magnesite 11%, dolomite
10%, limestone 8% and petroleum (crude) 2 percent.
