The Ministry of Rural
Development has released Rs.266.745 lakh to the State Government
of Gujarat for the Watershed Development Projects. The Ministry
has released these funds as central share of assistance for planning
and development of watershed projects for implementation of Desert
Development Programme (DDP) in four districts of Gujarat during
the year 2002-2003.
The districts, which
get the funds, are Ahmedabad – Rs.28 lakh, Valsad - Rs.43.695
lakh, Bhavnagar - Rs.117.895 lakh and Dang -Rs.77.155 lakh.
The State Government
should release its share to the districts, within a fortnight
of the date of release of the Centre share.
The Desert Development
Programme has been conceived as a long-term measure for restoration
of ecological balance by conserving, developing and harnessing
land, water, livestock and human resources.
