VICE PRESIDENT GREETS PEOPLE ON MAKARA SANKRANTI & PONGAL


The Vice President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Makara Sankranti and Pongal. Following is the text of his message:

"I offer my greetings to the people of India on the auspicious occasion of Makara Sankranti and Pongal. These festivals mark the beginning of the auspicious period of Uttarayana and the harvesting season and are celebrated in diverse ways with religious fervor and enthusiasm in various parts of the country. The rituals and festivities associated with these festivals are helpful in strengthening the time-tested values of sharing, generosity and benevolence in the society. All distinctions are forgotten in a spirit of brotherhood, goodwill and love, reflecting the myriad hues of our rich and unique culture.

May these festivals bring peace, prosperity and joy in the lives of all."
