With a view to
encourage and inculcate awareness about road safety, the Ministry
of Road Transport and Highways have instituted the National Award
on Road Safety for commendable work in propagating road safety
awareness by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and individuals.
Recognising the
outstanding contribution of M/s The Krishna District Lorry Owner’s
Association, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, in this field, it has
been decided to award them with National Road Safety Award for
NGO category for the year 2001. Shri Sham Sunder Juneja of Ludhiana,
Punjab has been chosen for the National Road Safety Award 2001
in the individual category. The award carries an amount of Rs.50,000
for the NGO and Rs.25,000 for the individual, in addition to citation
and trophy. These awards are likely to be presented in the Transport
Development Council Meeting scheduled to be held on 16th
January, 2003 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
In addition,
the contributions towards propagation of road safety made by M/s
Avadh Grameen Vikas Sansthan, Sultanpur, U.P., M/s Rashtriya Yuva
Sangathan, Karnal, Haryana and M/s Baghavathi Welfare Trust, Erode,
Tamil Nadu in the NGO category and Shri N. Judson, Thoothukudi,
Tamil Nadu in the individual category have also been recognised.
