PM RELEASES UNIQUE SET OF VCDs TO CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF INDIAN MUSIC


A unique treasure-trove of five VCDs and two audio CDs showcasing the best-known voices and faces of Indian music to celebrate 100 years of Indian music was released by the Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at his residence, here today. The set of VCDs and audio CDs, to be marketed all over the nation, in general and at the Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas, in particular, was presented to Shri Vajpayee, by Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Smt. Sushma Swaraj. In his message on the release of the set of VCDs and CDs, Shri Vajpayee said, "It gives me great happiness to note that Doordarshan has brought out a collection of selected recordings from its priceless treasure for the benefit of the people. It is very important that this treasure is taken not only to Indians, but also to Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs). I wish to congratulate Doordarshan for this initiative".

The set of VCDs and audio CDs include unique recordings of live performances by the ‘queen of ghazals’ – Begum Akhtar, renderings by Sufiana qawwals, a collection of songs sung by famous artistes titled Suron Ka Sangam and Kathak and Bharatnatyam dance recitals.

While the entire set of VCDs and audio CDs has been priced at $100, a single VCD, or CD, will cost $ 5 each.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ramesh Bais, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Shri Vijay Goel and senior officials from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting were also present on the occasion.
