The Ministry of Rural
Development has released Rs. 35.34 crore for rural drinking water
to Tamil Nadu and Punjab during the year 2002-03. Ministry has
released Rs. 2244 lakh to two districts of Tamil Nadu, Cuddalore
and Vellore for implementation of sector reform pilot project
in the districts to institutionalize community participation in
rural water supply programme. The total approved cost of each
project is Rs.40 crore out of which central share is Rs.37.40
crore.
The Ministry has
also released Rs. 1290.50 lakh to Punjab for execution and completion
of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural
habitations and schools under centrally sponsored Accelerated
Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP). The amount is the second
instalment of funds against the provisional allocation of Rs.2581
lakh under ARWSP.
