A MoU for taking
up execution of Lohari Nagpala Hydro Project (520 MW) and Tapoban,
Vishnugad Hydro project (360 MW) was signed between the National
Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. and the Government of Uttaranchal
yesterday at Dehradun. The MoU was signed by Shri O.P.Arya, Principal
Secretary (Energy and Irrigation), Government of Uttaranchal and
Shri T. Sankaralingam, Director (Projects), NTPC in the presence
of Shri Narain Dutt Tiwari, Chief Minister of Uttarachal and Shri
C.P.Jain, CMD, NTPC.
The MoU clears the
way for the detailed survey and investigation for finalising project
reports, getting statutory clearances, establishing techno-economic
viability. Twelve per cent of the total power generated by these
projects shall be available free to the State of Uttaranchal.
The benefits from
these projects are expected during the Eleventh Plan and the cost
of energy shall be comparable to the prevalent tariff structure.
The power generated from these Projects shall be available to
the Northern Region.
The Lohari-Nagpala
Project is located on Rishikesh-Gangotri road and is about 60
km. from Uttarkashi and the Tapoban-Vishnugad Hydro Project is
located near Joshimath.
The Corporation is
already executing 800 MW Koldam Hydro Power Project in Himachal
Pradesh.
