The Committee for
Development of Entertainment Sector, which was constituted at
the 24th Conference of Information Ministers of State
and Union Territories on 21.01.2001, has recommended that all
States/Union Territory administrations should fix a ceiling
of 60 per cent on entertainment tax. The recommendations have
been circulated to all States/UTs for obtaining their views.
The objective was that for all round development of film industry,
States/UTs may consider rationalising of rates of entertainment
tax so that a uniform structure prevails in the country.
This was stated
by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ravi Shankar
Prasad in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
