The Government
has been implementing various schemes for the development of
non-conventional energy source based systems, including power
generation throughout the country and also in Jammu and Kashmir.
The main sources of non-conventional energy harnessed in Jammu
and Kashmir include small hydro and solar energy for power generation.
27 small hydro power projects aggregating to 102 MW have so
far been installed and 9 projects aggregating to 13.31 MW are
under construction. 57 remote villages and 27 hamlets in Leh
and Kargil districts of the State have been electrified through
the installation of 10,000 solar home lighting systems and 6,000
solar lanterns. In addition to this, 9,202 solar lanterns, 14,839
solar home lighting systems, one Solar Photovoltaic power plant
of 40 KWp and 18 SPV water pumping systems have also been installed
in the state.

was given by Shri M. Kannappan, Minister of State for Non-conventional
Energy Sources, in a written reply to a question by Prof. Saifuddin
Soz in the Rajya Sabha today.
