The Government
has decided to develop an International Container Transshipment
Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadam, Cochin. Cochin Port has already
invited bids for this project on build, operate and transfer
(BOT) basis. A container handling capacity of 1.5 million twenty
feet equivalent units (TEUs) is likely to be created in the
first phase of this project with an ultimate capacity of 3.3
million TEUs by the year 2025 involving an estimated investment
of Rs. 2118 crore.
This was stated
by Shri Dilipkumar Mansukhlal Gandhi, Minister of State for
Shipping in a written reply to Shri Kodikunnil Suresh in Lok
Sabha Today.
