LOK SABHA
A proposal for
constructing a Western Peripheral Expressway, a part of which
passed through Haryana, was under consideration of National
Capital Region Planning Board. However, the Hon’ble Supreme
Court in its interim order dated December 6 2002 banned all
goods vehicles from entering Delhi except for those whose destination
is Delhi. Further, in its order dated July 15 2002, the Hon’ble
Supreme Court ordered that there can be no corridor or bypass
joining different National Highways through Delhi, and that
the corridor if an when proposed would have to bypass Delhi.
Pending final decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the proposal
for Western Peripheral Expressway has been dropped. Meanwhile,
the request of Government of Haryana to construct an expressway
corridor within Haryana has not been found acceptable because
the existing National Highway network along National Highway
Nos.71 and 71-A and the State roads have been found suitable
for serving as a bypass.
