Six communities
namely Lalung, Dimasa, Hajong, Singhpho, Khampti and Garo have
been included in the list of Scheduled Tribes of Assam vide
the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Orders (Amendment)
Act, 2002, which received the assent of the President of India
on 7th January, 2003.
According to the
modalities approved for deciding claims for inclusion, exclusion
and other modifications in the list of STs, none of the communities
who have been demanding their inclusion in the list of STs of
Assam was considered eligible.
There is no such
time frame for their inclusion.
This information
was given by the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs,
Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha
today.
