SUPPLY OF FOODGRAINS FOR MID-DAY MEAL SCHEME

As per the information furnished by FCI, an amount of Rs. 493.04 crores is to be released from the Ministry of Human Resource Development as on January 31, 2003 for the supply of foodgrains for the mid-day meal scheme.

The FCI has not stopped the supply of foodgrains for the mid-day meal scheme. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has been advised to clear the outstanding immediately.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has requested the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution not to interrupt supplies under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. They have also informed that they have requested the Ministry of Finance to provide sufficient funds for the purpose to settle the outstanding payment.

This information was given in Lok Sabha today by the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Subhash Maharia in a written reply to a question of Shri Naresh Puglia.
