HOLISTIC VISION FOR EDUCATION NEEDED – DR. JOSHI

A holistic vision is needed for education and compartmentalisation must be discouraged. Education must be imparted with a clear-cut vision and must not be reduced to merely being instruction. The entire education system must aim at excellence and quality, which is only possible if there is a judicious blend between the two. Besides, the entire community must also be part of the education process. This was stated by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Union Minister for Human Resource Development while delivering the inaugural address at a Seminar "Excellence in Education : The Global Journey", being organised by CII and Ashray Hastha Trust here today.

Dr. Joshi underlined that educators must rise above simply creating various skills among students. Today, due to market considerations, the thrust is on imparting skills to students which will hold them in good stead in the job market. Though this aspect is important, the educator, on the other hand, must try and build all four ingredients of the individual – body, mind, intellect and soul. If only one aspect is addressed, the resulting individual will not be complete.
