All the six Railway
Production Units performed well during the first nine months
of the current financial year ending December, 2002. While the
Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi exceeded the target
of 79 diesel locos by producing 82 such locos, the Chittaranjan
Locomotive Works (CLW) and the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala
met the target of 43 electric locos and 680 rail coaches respectively.
The Rail Wheel
Factory (RWF), Bangalore (successor of Wheel and Axle Plant)
rolled out 73321 wheels as against the target of 75009 wheels
and 31489 axles in excess of the target of 30129 axles. The
Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai produced 601 coaches as
against the target of 635 coaches. The shortfall in the target
was caused by sources being developed for supply of special
equipment for the prestigious Jan Shatabdi rakes, being manufactured
for the first time. The shortfall will be made up by the end
of the current financial year.
The Diesel Components
Works (DCW), Patiala re-built 52 diesel locos as against the
target of 53 such locos.
