The Ministry of
Rural Development has released Rs.32.51 crore to Gujarat as
Central share of funds for execution and completion of schemes
to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitation
and schools under the centrally sponsored Accelerated Rural
Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) for the year 2002-2003. An amount
of Rs.33 lakh has been released to the state government exclusively
for rural drinking water supply in Desert Development Programme
(DDP) areas.
Ministry has released
Rs. 165 lakh to Rajkot district as central assistance for planning
& development of watershed project for implementation of
Desert Development Programme (DDP) for the year 2002-2003. The
development of wasteland and degraded lands under the programme
is expected to promote employment generation in the rural areas
besides enhancing the participation of people at all stages
leading to sustainable development of land and sharing of the
benefits.
