The Railways transported
426.37 million tonnes (MT) of freight during the first 10 months
of the current financial year ending January 2003 as against
402.37 MTs of such traffic during the corresponding period of
the previous year, thus exceeding the target of 418.50 MTs in
the current year by 7.87 MTs. It also recorded an increase of
24.10 million tonnes over the last year’s target of 402.27 MTs.
During January
2003, the Railways lifted 45.91 MTs of freight traffic as against
the target of 45.75 million tonnes, thus recording an increase
by 0.16 MT over the target and 0.90 MT over the last year’s
target of 45.01 MTs.
