DEVELOPMENT OF FISHERIES


RAJYA SABHA

The Government proposes to develop the fisheries sector to boost the economy. The major components of the action plan, prepared for this purpose are extending fish farming into new area, introduction of economically advantageous species and diversification of technology. A network of 429 Fish Farmers Development Agencies established in the potential districts in all the States and the Union Territory of Pondicherry provides a package of technical , financial and extension support to fish farmers. Assistance in the form of subsidy is extended to fish farmers for a number of development activities such as construction of ponds, reclamation or renovation of ponds and tanks, first year inputs like fish seed, fish feed, fertilizers and manures, integrated fish farming, running water fish culture, fish seed hatcheries, fish feed units, etc.
