MANUFACTURING OF CARS

The passenger Car Industry in India has grown steadily during the last few years except during the year 2000-01 when there was negative growth due to global economic recession. Passenger Car Industry in India has 15 manufacturers with an installed capacity of 12,37,000 units. Production of cars during the years 2001-02 and 2002-03 was 564052 nos. and 606088 respectively.

As per Maruti Udyog Ltd. (MUL), its export accounted for 8.7 per cent of the total number of vehicles made by the company during the year 2002-03.

This information was given in the Lok Sabha today in a written reply by the Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar.
