PROCUREMENT OF JETS FOR VIP’s

The Union Government has decided to acquire five executive jets for VIPs from Brazil’s M/s Embraer. The contract for the purchase has been signed on Sep 19, 2003. Four jets are meant for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and one for the Border Security Force (BSF).

Necessary budgetary allocation have been made. Acquisition of the executive jets will enable the IAF and BSF to execute safe and efficient carriage of visiting VVIPs and VIPs, in aircraft fitted with modern navigational aids.

This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written reply to Shri Prabodh Panda and Shri Rupchand Murmu in Lok Sabha today.
