DR. JOSHI OFFERS TECHNOLOGY FOR
UPGRADATION OF PAPER INDUSTRY
PAPEREX
2003 INAUGURATED
Union Human Resource
Development and Science & Technology Minister, Dr. Murli Manohar
Joshi today offered technological assistance from the scientific
laboratories to the pulp and paper industry to make them competitive
and more environment friendly.
While inaugurating
Paperex 2003 , the international trade fair and conference on
pulp and paper industries here today, Dr. Joshi emphasised that
these industries must upgrade their technologies to the world
standard quickly. This would result in cutting cost, improving
quality and reducing hazards to the environment. Drawing attention
of the entrepreneurs and technologists towards high energy and
water consumption by the pulp and paper industry in India, Dr.
Joshi asked them to innovate ways to conserve such scarce resources.
They could utilise alternative resources like agricultural residues
and recyclable waste, and search for other ways of reducing dependence
on the traditional resources, he suggested.
Elaborating further
the need for environmental conservation, Dr. Joshi said that we
should look at containing consumption of natural resources to
a sustainable level so that they are available to the poor and
keep serving future generations. Pulp and paper industries have
an added social responsibility to limit their dependence on non-renewable
and scarce natural resources, Dr. Joshi said, as they tend to
over-consume these resources.
