EXHIBITION ON ARCHIVES AND THE
INDIAN DECORATIVE ARTS
The Minister for
Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan today inaugurated the exhibition
on ‘Archives and the Indian Decorative Arts (1850-1950)’ at the
National Archives of India here today. The exhibition has on view
documents and exhibits dealing with the state of Indian Art prior
to 1850, evolution of a Definitive Art Policy, art works and decorative
designs on metal, wood, textiles, stone and pottery etc. The exhibits
also included the glorious illustrations adorning our constitution,
created by the legendary Nandlal Bose.
Inaugurating
the Exhibition, Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan
said that the exhibits are the heritage of mankind. Through these
the younger generation can draw inspiration and learn a lot about
great Indian artists. He expressed the hope that the National
Archives would continue to hold such exhibitions to familiarize
the common man with rich Indian heritage.
The exhibition
will be open for public till 5 January, 2004 from 10.30 AM to
5.30 PM.
