CIL EARNS RS. 2865.50 CRORES DURING
2002-2003

The Lok Sabha was
informed today that Coal India Ltd. (CIL) which incurred loss
of Rs. 1414.47 crores in 2000-01 increased its profit to Rs. 2865.50
crores during 2002-2003. Its profits were Rs. 1754.56 crores during
2001-02. Giving this information the the Minister of State for
Coal Shri Prahlad Singh Patel informed that the CIL adopted various
measures to improve productivity and quality and reduce costs
to make CIL profitable. The Minister also informed the House that
CIL has set up a Grievance Redressal Cell in the Marketing Division
of CIL at Kolkata headed by Chief General Manager (Sales &
Marketing). The Cell started functioning from August 2003 and
handles consumers’ grievances in respect of marketing issues.
The Minister also informed the Lok Sabha that the CIL has invited
applications to set up coal washeries in the coalfields for the
supply of washed coal to Thermal Power Plants under ‘Build-Own-Operate’
concept.
