COOPERATIVE SOCITIES IN DIFFERENT STATES

Union Minister for
Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram informed the Lok Sabha today in
a reply to a question from Shri K. P. Singh Deo that 12 States
have established State Tribal Development Cooperative Corporations.
These are the registered societies namely, Girijan Cooperative
Corporation (GCC), Andhra Pradesh; Gujarat State Forest Development
Corporation Ltd., Gujarat; Manipur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled
Tribes Development Corporation Ltd., Manipur; Rajasthan Tribal
Area Development Cooperative Federation Ltd., Rajasthan; Jharkhand
State Tribal Cooperative Development Coorporation Ltd.; Madhya
Pradesh Langhu Vanupaj, Vyapar Avem Vikas Sekhari Sangh, Madhya
Pradesh; Maharashtra State Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation
Ltd., Maharashtra; Tripura Apex Marketing Cooperative Society
Ltd., Tripura; Kerala State Cooperative marketing Federation Ltd.,
Kerala; Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation of Orissa Ltd.,
Orissa; Meghalaya State Cooperative marketing and Consumer Federation
Ltd. (MECOFED) and West Bengal Tribal Development Cooperative
Corporation Ltd., West Bengal.
The Minister further
stated that these corporations are provided funds under the Central
Sector Scheme of Grant in aid to State Tribal Development Cooperative
Corporations – mainly for procurement of Minor Forest Produce
(MFP). Central Government also provides grants for strengthening
the share capital of these Corporations for MFP operations. State
wise allocation is not done under the scheme, which is need based.
The budgetary allocation under the scheme for the current financial
year, i.e. 2003-04, is Rs. 18.00 crores.
