thousand metric tonne (TMT) as compared to 5,409 TMT during the
corresponding period last year. The earning by export of petroleum
products during the period April to September, 2003 are Rs. 7,638
crore as compared to Rs. 5,084 crore during the corresponding
period last year. The amount incurred on the import of petroleum
products during 2000-01 was Rs. 12,093 crore while it was Rs.
7,249 crore and Rs. 8,847 crore during 2001-02 and 2002-03 respectively.
Replying to another
query she said that with the dismantling of Administered Pricing
Mechanism (APM) in the petroleum sector effective 1st
April, 2002, the prices of petrol and diesel have been decontrolled.
The Oil Companies are now fixing the prices of these products
after taking into account the international oil prices. Thus the
fluctuations in the international oil prices are likely to get
reflected in the domestic consumer prices of petrol and diesel.
