EXPORTS FROM SEZs UP BY 29% DURING
APRIL-SEPTEMBER 2003 AND EOUs BY 24%
Exports
from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) during the first six months
of the current financial year (April-September 2003) have registered
a growth of 29% in dollar terms as against the overall growth
in exports of 10%. Exports during April-September 2003 from Special
Economic Zones are valued at US $ 1291.33 million (Rs. 6008.46
crore) as compared to US $ 1002.45 million (Rs. 4889.85 crore)
during the corresponding period last year.
Growth in exports
from the Export Oriented Units is also quite encouraging. The
export during the first six months of the current financial year
from EOUs stood at US $ 1154.35 million (Rs. 5371.11 crore) as
compared to US $ 932.56 million (Rs. 4548.92 crore) during the
corresponding period last year, representing a growth of 24% in
dollar terms.
