FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF RAILWAYS
IN FIRST QUARTER
The Railways
carried 1286.34 million passengers during the first quarter of
the current financial year, ending June, 2003 as compared to 1247.04
million passengers during the corresponding period of the previous
year. This recorded an increase of 39.30 millions.
During the period,
the Railways saved Rs.718.77 crores in its working expenditure
vis-à-vis the budgetary target of expenditure pegged at
Rs.8409.61 crores.
As for punctuality
of trains, it improved from 90 per cent to 92.1 per cent on broad
gauge and from 95 per cent to 97.1 per cent on metre gauge, during
the period.
