MAJOR PORTS IN THE COUNTRY HANDLED
25.603 MT OF CARGO IN JUNE
During the month
of June, 2003, major Ports in the country handled 25.603 MT of
cargo as against the target of 26.258 MT and 25.270 MT actually
handled during the corresponding month of the previous year. The
performance of major Ports during the month recorded an increase
of 1.3% over that of the same month in the previous year. The
cargo traffic at major Ports during the first three months of
the fiscal 2003-2004 aggregated to 76.676 MT as against 75.447
MT handled during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
The cumulative performance during April-June, 2003 showed an increase
of 5.6% over April-June, 2002.
The total tonnage
as on 1st July, 2003 was 6.42 Million G.T. comprising
618 vessels as compare to 6.25 Million G.T. comprising 615 vessels
as on 1st June, 2003.
During the month
under report 32 Indian vessels and 40 foreign vessels totaling
72 vessels were chartered which covered the quantity of 17.51
lakh MT and 38.96 Lakh MT respectively totaling to 56.47 Lakh
MT. While the dry cargo freight market remained firm the tanker
freight market showed slight downward trend.
