SOLAR POWERED RICKSHAWS
The Ministry of Non-Conventional
Energy Sources is implementing a broad-based programme for eco-friendly
battery operated vehicles where the batteries are charged by conventional
electricity. The Ministry is providing a subsidy of upto 33 per
cent on the cost of such vehicles, exclusive of taxes. The programme
is being implemented by the state government departments/nodal
agencies.
The Maharana of Mewar
Charitable Foundation (MMCF), Udaipur has developed some prototypes
of solar powered rickshaws in association with some British organisations.
The MMCF also organised, with partial financial support from the
Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, a 10 day rally of
six solar powered rickshaws and one electric motor cycle in Rajasthan
from Jaipur to Udaipur in April this year.
