INSTALLATION OF WIND-MILLS IN M.P.

RAJYA SABHA

A modified programme on deployment of small wind energy systems such as water pumping wind-mills and small aerogenerator systems was launched by the Ministry during 1993-94. Water pumping wind-mills can be installed for drinking water supply, micro irrigation and demonstration purposes. The programme is implemented in Madhya Pradesh by the Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam, the nodal agency for renewable energy in the state. No water pumping wind-mill has been installed so far under this programme in Madhya Pradesh for irrigation. However, a wind-mill has been installed at Jivaji Vishwavidhyalaya, Gwalior and threee more are under installation at Indore, Bhopal and Jabalpur for demonstration purposes.

During 2003-04 it is proposed to install 150 water pumping wind-mills in the country. Targets are allocated to the states against proposals received from them. The MPUVN does not propose to install any windmill in the state this year for irrigation purpose.

This information was given by Shri M. Kannappan, Minister of State for Non-conventional Energy Sources, in a written reply to a question by Shri P.K.Maheshwari in Rajya Sabha today.
