BORDER AREA PROJECTS
LOK SABHA
The Central Social
Welfare Board had initiated Border area Projects in the States
of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West
Bengal, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh (presently the staff of Uttar Pradesh
project have been merged with ICDS project in the State), Himachal
Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Lakshadweep,
Andaman & Nicobar subsequent to the Chinese aggression in
the year 1962. The objective behind setting up these Projects
was to ensure emotional and cultural integration of the border
area population with the rest of the country. Under this programme,
women and children in the remote boarder areas are provided integrated
welfare services like craft training, maternity and child welfare,
social education, medical aid and balwadi services. In addition,
recreation facilities are provided to adolescent boys and girls.
This information
was given by Smt. Jaskaur Meena, Minister of State in the Ministry
of Human Resource Development in a written reply to a question
in the Lok Sabha Sabha today.
