SETTING UP OF NATIONAL BOARD OF
ACCREDITATION
LOK SABHA
The National Board
of Accreditation (NBA) has been set up in the AICTE under Section
10(u) of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
Act, 1987. As per the NBA guidelines, the minimum eligibility
criteria for a programme to be considered for accreditation is
that, at least two batches must have passed out from the concerned
Programme. As such, most of the Institutions that were established
during the period 1997-98 to 2001-2002 were not eligible for accreditation.
AICTE has not yet made it mandatory for approved Technical Institutions
to obtain NBA accreditation. However, they encourage the Institutions
to come forward for accreditation through certain incentives.
