FENCING IN LOC

LOK SABHA

The Army has undertaken selective fencing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) as a measure to check infiltration of terrorists. In certain areas where the fencing is close to the Line of Control, Pakistan attempts to hinder the fence construction.

A frontage of about 110 km out of a total 523 km that has been planned for fencing along the LoC in J&K is in progress and expected to be completed by the middle of 2004. Thereafter, the remaining work will be progressed.

This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes in a written reply to Shri Chada Suresh Reddy in Lok Sabha today.
