NRDC TO PROVIDE COST-EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGIES TO FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES

The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) is to make available cost-effective technologies to small and medium scale entrepreneurs engaged in food processing. For this, the NRDC will tap all the research activities funded by the Ministry of Food Processing Industry. The research by institutions under this Ministry has lead to the development of a number of technologies but as it lacked in marketing techniques they could not be put to productive use. Hence it has signed an MoU with the NRDC of the Ministry of Science and Technology for commercialising the same.

Apart from marketing these technologies the NRDC will also help commercialise the processes and products developed by Food Processing Research Institutions. This will benefit all those entrepreneurs intending to start new food processing units. The NRDC will also suggest ways and means of improving them and making them efficient and cost-effective.

The NRDC which has expertise in IPR, will also help in securing patents for their products and processes. The partnership between the NRDC and the Ministry of Food Processing is expected to pave the way in creating a wide network of small scale units in this sector.

The NRDC, a profit earning public sector enterprise is fully engaged in transfer of technology from R&D laboratories to industry. It has also signed a number of agreements with several foreign countries for tech-transfer and commercialisation. 27 new processes were assigned to the corporation for commercialisation last year.
