SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR MERITORIOUS GIRL STUDENTS BELONGING TO MINORITIES


The Maulana Azad Educational Foundation has started the Maulana Azad National Scholarship Scheme for Meritorious Girl Students belonging to minorities. Besides recognizing and promoting merit among the poor girl students of minorities, the objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance in order to help them to continue their education. 1200 scholarships at the rate of Rs. 10,000/- each would be given by the Foundation. The Scholarship amount would be for paying fee to the institutions, purchase of books and stationery and for meeting boarding/lodging charges. Girl students belonging to notified minorities, i.e. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs and Parsis having secured not less than 55% marks in Secondary School Certificate examination through recognized Central/State Boards Of Secondary Education would be eligible for grant of scholarships. Another important eligibility criteria is that the family income of the student from all sources should be less than Rs. One Lakh per annum. The eligible student should have confirmed admission in class XI/diploma in Engineering /ITI. Universities, Colleges or other Institutions offering admission to eligible girl students for scholarship should be recognized by the competent authority.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has provided Rs.1.20 crore for the Scholarship Scheme to the Maulana Azad Educational Foundation for the current financial year. The Ministry has also provided Rs. 10 Lakh to the Foundation for grant of Maulana Azad National Literacy Awards. Four awards of Rs. one Lakh would be given each year to an outstanding institution in each region of the country for significant contribution towards promotion of general and technical education particularly among girls belonging to educationally backward minorities.
